TAMPA, FL, USA - 20 July 2023: Atkins and its parent company SNC-Lavalin announced today that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Laser Light Companies to commence early project development activities for a first-of-a-kind worldwide data distribution network.
Atkins will provide comprehensive global program management services for Laser Light’s Extended Ground Network System (XGNS) in advance of the deployment of its hybrid all-optical satellite, terrestrial fiber and sub-sea cable high-capacity infrastructure, which will transform the way high-volume data is provided. The new distribution platform will connect companies, countries and continents at high speed, efficiently and cost effectively. Atkins offers a full suite program level services which include:
international permitting and procurement;
digital reporting and data analytics;
quality assurance;
environmental, and sustainability and communications services;
civil and telecommunications engineering and design services.
“We understand the challenges of operating in a complex and ever-changing digital environment,” said Paul Demit, Sr. VP, Director Community & Intermodal Infrastructure Business Unit, Atkins. “Combining our extensive global experience designing and building complex infrastructure with our proven success integrating next generation technological platforms, we are excited to offer Laser Light a suite of programs to deliver this revolutionary data transfer solution.”
SNC-Lavalin’s Major Projects division offers its construction management services for delivering Point of Presence (POP) containers, working with local authorities and subcontractors on the civil infrastructure, land acquisitions, permitting and installation of the preassembled POP units.
“We have delivered some of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects, so our team possesses the people, breadth of expertise and experience needed to manage the end-to-end delivery of such an important project,” said Fred Antunes, Senior Vice President of Major Projects, SNC-Lavalin.
“Atkins and SNC-Lavalin have a well-earned reputation of delivering multi-disciplinary complex and technically intricate projects across the globe,” said Bob Brumley, Chairman and CEO, of the Laser Light Companies. “To be successful in meeting the timelines of our global network roll-out, all of us—Laser Light, Atkins and SNC-Lavalin—need to be in close coordination with our site selection, equipment ordering, delivery and its instillation. By being a single point of contact, both at the corporate planning and oversight level, as well as “on the site” buildout location in our 10 operating P&L market, makes this and efficient and ideal partnership to meet the deployment challenges of a global buildout.”
The team will work to program and deliver up to 200 POP units over a three-year period at Laser Light’s various locations around the world to enable this one-of-a-kind, on-demand networking platform.
